The 870 Express with Extended Magazine is a multipurpose shotgun that may be employed as a home defense shotgun, a tactical shotgun, or a camp gun in bear territory. Many aftermarket Remington 870 accessories allow owners to personalize the 870 Express for specific applications. The 18-1/2″ barrel incorporates a fixed cylinder choke for best performance with buckshot and slugs at close range. A receiver milled from a solid billet of steel for maximum strength, and twin action bars that prevent binding and twisting while cycling the action are at the heart of the ultra-reliable 870 Remington. The aiming properties of the 870 pump shotguns are rather good. The Remington Model 870 Pump-Action Shotgun features a water-resistant fore-end, and a matte black, bead-blasted receiver and barrel. Sling swivel studs allow the user to quickly attach a sling to the rifle to free their hands while carrying it. A sturdy rubber recoil pad helps the shooter stay on target for quick follow-up shots by dampening the recoil.
